The Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association celebrates its 35th anniversary.

35 years after Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA)’s inception in 1988, we are still dedicated to the uplifting global status of Hong Kong Jewelry manufacturing industry. We promise to stand shoulder to shoulder with our industry peers, to serve our members with superior operations, to actively explore sustainable development of the industry, and to take on and fulfil more social responsibilities to give back more to the Hong Kong community.

HKJMA sponsored the "HOPES RUNNER 2023" which organized by Haven of Hope Christian Service and took an active part in helping the elderly and underprivileged groups in our community.

“JMA Hong Kong International Jewelry Show” has entered its 30th edition.

Since the 1 st “HK International Jewelry and Watch Fair” in 1992, “JMA Hong Kong International Jewelry Show” has gone through 30 editions of ups and downs, and still sticks to its original intention – to build the international show stage for Hong Kong jewelry industry.

2021

JMA Hong Kong International Jewelry Show 2021 was the largest-scale jewelry show in Hong Kong this year. Continuing to focus on local sales market, we successfully drove the sales to a record high, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from different parties.

2020

As the only local jewelry event that welcomes both trade and individual buyers, JMA Hong Kong International Jewelry Show was the only jewelry show successfully held in 2020 and helped exhibitors to generate more sales and explore new business opportunities.



HKJMA has carried out a pilot run of the J-HUB project since November 2020, providing state-of-the-art facilities and a range of services to help nurture newcomers and support jewelry start-ups.

2019

To better enhance our image for your easy recognition, we have renamed our show as "JMA Hong Kong International Jewelry Show"in 2019, formerly known as "Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show".

2018

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of HKJMA, we held a year-round celebration, including the JMA Spring Dinner cum 30th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony, 30th Anniversary Charity Golf Tournament, 30th Anniversary Charity Sale and 30th Anniversary Dinner.

A 30th Anniversary commemoration book (only available in Chinese) "A Memoir of the Golden Era of the Hong Kong Jewelry Industry" was officially presented during The HKIJMS Welcome Reception on 29 Nov.

"HKJMA 30th Anniversary Dinner cum 3rd Hong Kong Jewelry Industry Outstanding Achievement Award Presentation Ceremony" came to a close on 30 Nov at HKCEC. 8 nominees were awarded for their contribution to our industry.

More than 900 exhibitors from 81 countries participated in JMA Hong Kong 2018. The Buyer entrance surged nearly 7%, achieving remarkable success, and further reinforcing the show's status as Asia Key Jewelry Event.

2017

DEC

JMA Hong Kong entered its 25th edition. The scale expanded to Hall 3FG with nearly 900 exhibitors.

"Miss Jewelry Hong Kong 2017" came to the 5th edition, and HKJMA chose the theme "Dream with Hope".

SEP

JMA International Jewelry Design Competition came to the 17th edition, and the theme "TRESOR", derived from the word 'treasure', echoed the occasion of approaching the 30th anniversary of HKJMA.

2016

We took the initiative to establish online platforms, e.g., the mobile app of Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show, JE Instagram and Pinterest.

Our quarterly magazine JE made a breakthrough in magazine layout and style of photography to elevate its promotional power.

2015

We revamped our official website and set up a Facebook account and a "Hong Kong International Jewelry Shopping Festival" WeChat Page to draw attention.

Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show added three pavilions. They were Taiwan, Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) and the International Colored Gemstone Association (ICA) respectively.

We initiated cross-platform promotion by cooperating with famous UK bloggers, Ms. Maia Adams and Juliet Hutton-Squire from Adorn Insight, to write article put on the website about Hong Kong's latest jewelry trend for HKJMA.

2014

The 22nd edition of the Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show gained UFI recognition, indicating the excellent quality of the show.

2013

The "Buyers' Favorite Jewelry Design Competition" was renamed as "JMA International Jewelry Design Competition" accordingly to encourage. It went international and welcomed worldwide designs.

2012

Our Association obtained the ISO 9001 certification, proving that we conform with all the requirements of ISO in the management of local and overseas exhibition, as well as the provision of services for our members.

Funded by the HKSAR Government and supported by CreateHK, we organized Hong Kong's first summit in jewelry industry, "World Jewellery Industry Development Summit 2012 - Hong Kong".

Our "Brand Development & Publication Committee" held the first "Enterprises Branding Forum" during the show.

2010

We launched the first edition of "Miss Jewelry Hong Kong" pageant during the JMA Show to draw attention from target visitors.

Material Outlet (http://outlet.jewelry.org.hk) was launched for the transaction of raw materials online.

We launched the world's first Global Jewelry Identity (Global J-ID) Management Label Scheme with the technical support of the Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) to trace and verify the jewelry product information.

The 'International Designer Arena' was set up the first time in the 17th edition of Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers' Show.

2008

Jointly organized by our Association and Macao Goldsmiths' Guild, the "1st JMA Macau" was held at the Cotai Strip® Convention and Exhibition Center at The Venetian® Macao.

The number of members increased to 400.

2007

To explore the applicability of RFID technology, HKJMA developed a prototype system to improve the operation flows and logistic management of jewelry industry.

2006

With the financial support from the "DesignSmart Initiative's General Support Scheme", we organized the "2005/6 International Precious Jewelry Design Innovation Competition plus Jewelry Design Creativity and Jewellery Technology Conference and Forum".

Besides, by applying for extra funding, we organized the "World's Jewelry Design Masters, Strategists & Leaders Forum".

We organized China & Hong Kong Pavilion the first time to participate in "JCK Las Vegas 2006".

With the financial support from the "Innovation and Technology Fund", our Association and Hong Kong Productivity Council developed the first "Jewelry e-ID System" by adopting advanced encryption and reading technologies.

HKJMA Pavilion was organized at Istanbul Jewelry in Turkey the first time.

Our Association, being invited by the Chamber of Commerce for Jewelry & Precious Metal Industry of All-China Federation of Industry & Commerce, organized the 1st "China Jewelry Manufacturers Brand Awards".

With the financial support from the Government of HKSAR and support from the Gemmological Association of Hong Kong, we developed a training program of Jewelry design, technique, production and assessment.

With the support from "SME Development Fund", our Association together with Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) developed a "Web-enabled Advanced 3D Interactive Marketing and Commerce System".

We organized the HKJMA Pavillion the first time at The West Coast Jewelry Show, Los Angeles in the USA.

HKJMA was the host of the CIBJO, The World Jewellery Confederation Annual Congress 2005, an international event attracted over 160 delegates from 29 countries participating in the Congress.

With the financial support from the HKSAR Government under the DesignSmart Initiative's Professional Continuing Education Scheme, we developed a "Jewelry Design and Digital-Craftsmanship Training Programme".

2004

With the Innovation and Technology Fund of the Government of HKSAR, and support from The Gemmological Association of Hong Kong (GAHK) and Hong Kong Article Numbering Association (HKANA), HKJMA and Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC) are aiming to develop a project of "e-ID for Jewelry by Adopting Advanced Encryption and Reading System".

We were invited by the Hong Kong Productivity Council to join "The Week of International Sci-tech Collaboration in Dongguan" to promote the business opportunity of jewelry industry in Hong Kong.

It was the first time that HKJMA Pavilion was organized at Jewelers International Showcase, Miami in the USA.

We established "Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association Ltd., (Shenzhen) Office" located in Futian District in Shenzhen to help members explore and develop their business in China

Through the coordination of Liaison Office of the Central People's Government, we joined the "Mission to Jieyang & Shanwei, Guangdong province in China" and learnt the growth for silver & jade jewelry industry in China.

With support from the "Professional Services Development Assistance Scheme", we developed a continuing professional training program for jewelry designers and other jewelry executives to enhance their knowledge and competitiveness in product design and brand building.

We were invited to join "Zhanjiang & Yangjiang Mission" led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr Donald Tsang, to study the business opportunity in the western part of Guangdong province in China.

We were invited by the Invest Hong Kong to join the "CEPA EXPO & FORUM - Promotion Week for China, Hong Kong & Macao" in Beijing, to share the successful experience of jewelry industry

We established 'Hong Kong New Design Website' (www.hkje.com) to show e-catalogue of the latest HK design to the global jewelers.

A visit to Mr. Wang Liao Ping, Head of Department of Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macao Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, PRC. and Mr Wang Chao, Director General of Department of American & Oceanian Affairs Ministry of Commerce of PRC, and Mr Chen Baoshan, Division Chief, Currency & bullion Management Department of People's Bank of China, and Ms Chen Yue Ming, Silver, Gold & Currency Department of People's Bank of China was organized.

We changed the size of 'Hong Kong Jewelry Express' from 206mm x 285mm to 225mm x 302mm to create a new look for worldwide jewelry readers.

We reformed the organization structure and appointment system that our executive committee members would be elected by direct vote from all members.

HKJMA met with Mr. Henry Tang, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology for immediate assistance of the prohibition of 'The China & Hong Kong Pavilion' to participate in the JCK Las Vegas Show 2003.

MAR

Due to the outbreak of SARS, the Swiss government banned any participation of exhibitors from Hong Kong just before the Basel/Zurich Fair opened. HKJMA, together with other related organizations, went to Consulates & Embassies of Switzerland in Hong Kong, to negotiate the compensation of Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers.

Our Governing Board approved the setting up of the representative office in Guangzhou.

As requested by the Trade and Industry Department, the 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference' had submitted valuable comments regarding the policy on "Processing Industries in Mainland China". Another letter was given to Mr. Henry Tang to urge the HKSAR Government to improve the business environment and overall competitiveness of Hong Kong industries.

2002

The number of members increased to 364 at the year-end, with an increase of more than 100 members comparing with that of last year.

Stepping into the 10th Anniversary, our biggest year-end jewelry event was renamed as 'Hong Kong International Jewelry Manufacturers Exhibition' (HKIJME).

Regarding the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) for China Made Jewelry, 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference' sent a letter to MOFTEC, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology and the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong SAR, respectively. We hoped that the appropriate parties could negotiate with the U.S. Federal Government for granting 'GSP' to jewelry products from China origin.

It was the first time we organized the HKJMA Pavilion at "Luxury China, Shanghai, China".

We organized 'The 5th Buyer's Favorite Jewelry Design Competition' and added the special group 'FreeStyle Design' apart from the other four categories.

The 'Jewelry Business Directory plus HKJMA 14th Anniversary Year Book' was not only published as a traditional 400-page printed version but also made as a lighter CD ROM version.

On behalf of 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference', a proposal for 'Reforming Hong Kong trading and industry promotion strategies' was presented to Mr. Henry Tang, Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology.

Our Association and Hong Kong Jewellery & Jade Manufacturers' Association jointly organized the first annual dinner, 'International Jewellers' Gala Evening', with the slogan 'Partnering for New Industry Strength'.

On behalf of 'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference', a letter was sent to Mr. Chan Wing-kee, Chairman of Small and Medium Enterprises Committee to express the comments of industries towards the SME Funding Schemes. It was suggested that the Trade and Industry Department should improve their support to small and medium enterprises in order to increase the overall competitiveness of Hong Kong exports.

We were appointed as a Vice-Chairman of 'Professional Validation Council of Hong Kong Industries'.

We launched an online job recruitment website (jobs.jewelry.org.hk) to help Hong Kong jewelry employers to seek for right employees.

We launched the 'New Buyers' Credit Information Exchange Scheme' to help members to minimize the risk of an open account, avoids the potential bad debts from the new customers.

As China entered WTO, We had formed a delegation to Guangzhou Sub-Branch of People's Bank of China to get the most updated industry policies.

2001

It was the first time to organize an 'Open Day' for local jewelers to promote our services & activities to recruit new members.

The number of members increased to 259 at the end of the year.

The 9th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre.

It was the first time the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at 'Bijorhca, France'.

'The 4th Buyers' Favorite Diamond Jewelry Design Competition' was organized by HKJMA, and co-organized by the Gemological Institute of America (Hong Kong), September Hong Kong Jewellery & Watch Fair and Jewellery News Asia Magazine.

A new election system was approved by the 6th General Committee. The new system allows the chairman openly elected by a vote of all of HKJMA ordinary members.

The Professional Validation Centre of Hong Kong Plastics and Metal Industries Centre launched the programs of the 1st Honorary Fellowship and Associateship. Our Founding Chairman, Mr Frank Tang was one of the Honorary Fellowship Awardees, and ten of our members got the Associateship Award.

The 8th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, in which over 200 exhibitors participated and more than 12,000 visitors were registered at the show.

HKJMA started to provide the 'Nickel Content and Release Test Service', which met the European Union standard.

The Association launched the 'Information Service Membership'.

We organized the 3rd "Buyers' Favorite Diamond Jewelry Design Competition" and added a new category of 'fine jewelry set' out of the other five groups, namely 'ring', 'necklace', 'earrings', 'bracelet', and 'brooch'.

We became a member of the 'Professional Validation Centre of Hong Kong Plastics and Metal Industries Centre'. The centre provided lifelong learning, improving the professional standard of employees in the field.

HKJMA and the Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference representatives interviewed Mr. Tung Chee Hwa, Chief Executive of HKSAR. During the meeting, we handed in our "Position Paper" to Mr. Tung. It was very encouraging that many ideas were adopted by the Government eventually.

The largest HK Pavilion was organized at JCK Las Vegas Show.83 exhibitors with 104 booths were participating in the show.

To promote the 'Parametric-Based Jewelry Component CAD Database' to the industry, HKJMA organized some courses and seminars with the Hong Kong Productivity Council.

A study tour to the Shanghai & Zhuji pearl farming zone was organized and attended the Shanghai Symposium on 'Impact on Jewelry Industry after China Joining the WTO'.

The HKJMA permanent office was moved to 'Unit G, 2/F., Kaiser Estate, Phase 2, 51 Man Yue Street, Hunghom, Kowloon, Hong Kong'.

It was the first time the HKJMA Pavilion was organized at 'Birmingham Spring Fair, UK'.

To help our members reduce their cash flow difficulties, HKJMA established a 'Gold Purchase Finance Service', the first service of its kind in the world! This service allows members to obtain real gold (with a maximum value of $HK 2 million) without standby L/C or any collateral.

'Debt Tracking Service' was launched to mitigate the risk of doubtful debts from overseas and local buyers.

'HKJMA Golf Team' was established, and around 30 members were recruited.

1999

The number of members increased to 230 at the year-end.

The 7th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held. There were three breakthroughs at this show:

1) Rescheduled the show in November so that jewelry traders could replenish their stocks before year-end festivals.
2) Advanced registered buyers could enjoy an excellent 4-star hotel package through HKJMA.
3) We organized "Closeout Corner" where exhibitors sold out their stocks at a very low price by the year-end.

'The 2nd Buyers' Favorite Diamond Jewelry Design Competition' was organized.

We became a member of 'Metals Training Board of Vocational Training Council', aimed at organizing and providing more training programs for members to equip themselves to face the challenges ahead.

Three HKJMA pavilions were organized at the Middle East Roadshows 'Arab Jewellery & Watch Show', 'Jewellery Arabia' and 'MidEast Watch & Jewellery Fair''. The Roadshows lasted nearly for one month.

'Hong Kong Business Community Joint Conference' was established to promote the prosperity of the Hong Kong business community. We were elected to be the Voluntary Secretariat.

The 11th Annual General Meeting & Anniversary Dinner Reception was held in Holiday Inn Golden Mile on 16th July 1999. We were honored to have invited Mr. Francis Ho, J.P. Director-General of Industry from Industry Department Hong Kong Special Administrative Region as our Guest-of-honor.

'Mainland Affairs Committee' was formed to build up close connections between Hong Kong jewelry manufacturers and official bodies and trade associations in Mainland China.

'Technology Development Committee' was formed to develop new and advanced jewelry manufacturing technologies.

'Education and Training Committee' was formed to provide professional enrichment and training to members.

'International Confederation of Jewellery, Silverware, Diamonds, Pearls and Stones (CIBJO)' recognized HKJMA as Hong Kong representative.

The 6th Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition was held at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre. More than 9,000 visitors ware registered at the show.

Two largest HKJMA pavilions were organized at the Middle East Road Shows 'Arab Jewellery' and Jewellery Arabia'.

With 4.8 million Government funding, the 'Hong Kong Jewelry Industry Technology Centre' was fueled the third time to develop the 'Master Alloy' technology.

The quarterly 'Catalogazine', "Hong Kong Jewelry Express", was first published for the promotion of local jewelry industry and products to world-wide jewelry traders.

The largest HKJMA Pavilion was organized by the Association at the Indonesia Jewelry and Watch Fair, Jakarta, Indonesia.

HKJMA was appointed to be the sole agent of the Hong Kong and China pavilions in JCK Jewelry Shows.

'Express Carnet Guarantee Service' was newly launched by the Association, which required much less time, money and manpower than the old one and the maximum guarantee amount increased to HK$ 10 million per member.

The Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Delegation was organized again to visit Beijing and the officials of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, the China National Industry and Commerce Federation, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office, the Ministry of Foreign Trade & Imp. & Exp. Corp Economic Cooperation, the Beijing Customs and Excise Department, the Gemmological Association of China and the China National Arts and Crafts Imp. & Exp Corp.

A Hong Kong delegation was organized to visit the 11th China Jewelry Trade Fair Reception in Guang Zhou, China.

A 50% increase in sales was recorded in the 3rd Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Exhibition held at the HKJMA office.

HKD 4.48 million was granted by the Industrial and Technology Development Council for the development of the new manufacturing technology 'Platinum Electroforming'.

The "1996 Best Service Scheme for Hong Kong Jewelry Industry Award" was jointly organized by the six jewelry associations and ICAC.

The Management Committee for 97JA Las Vegas Spring Show was formed by HKJMA and the Hong Kong Jade & Stone Manufacturers' Association, to discuss the management and promotion of the Hong Kong Pavilion.

The first delegation was organized to visit Beijing and was warmly welcomed by the State Council Hongkong and Macao Affairs Office, Ministry of Foreign Trade & Economic Cooperation, China National Arts & Crafts Import & Export Corp., China National Pearl Diamond Gem & Jewellery Import & Export Corp and China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, etc.

The first self-organized jewelry fair, "Hong Kong Jewellery Manufacturers' Exhibition", was held at the HKJMA office to assist members in exploring local jewelry market.

The four Associations, the HKTDC and Miller Freeman, successfully compromised to combine the two Hong Kong September jewelry shows into one.

The HKJMA Permanent Office Opening Ceremony was held.

The Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers' Association (HKJMA) and its Preparatory Executive Committee were founded by 17 leading Hong Kong jewelry manufacturers.
