It is my great honour to be elected as the new Chairman of the Hong Kong Jewelry Manufacturers’ Association (HKJMA).
I would like to show my gratitude to all the members and committee members for their support and confidence towards
me. After taking up the new post, I’ll work with all my mind and might with HKJMA for the sake of jewelry industry. HKJMA
spares no effort to contribute to the whole industry, this ideal is identical to mine. With my new post, I hope I can get
greater support from the fellows to serve the industry in a fair, impartial and open attitude. I and the new Executive and
General Committee will keep up our mission and goal of targeting the best interests of our members. This year, HKJMA will
further upgrade our services, unite the jewelry industry players, enhance the product quality, assist members opening up
new markets, as well as boost Hong Kong’s jewelry status in the globe.
Facing the global economic downturn and the rise of China’s economy, the Mainland market is in the limelight. The
Mainland market is expected to have a greater expansion, but Hong Kong can back up with its geographical and other
advantages. The well-developed transport and information systems facilitate Hong Kong to become a convenient trading
platform for Mainland jewelry industry. Taking the strength of motherland China as its foothold, Hong Kong jewelry
industry has the potential to play a dominant role in the international arena and get the acceptance from China and
overseas. Attributed to the strenuous work of our comrades, Hong Kong jewelry manufacturers get ready for opening up
this vast Mainland market as well as bringing Hong Kong’s jewelry to the rest of the world, pursuing the goal of “Wherever
there are people, there is Hong Kong jewelry”.
In recent years, the Pearl Delta has become the focal point of Hong Kong’s jewelry manufacturing industry. Jewelry
manufacturers swarmed to Shenzhen to set up selling points. To cope with the members’ needs, our Shenzhen office will
foster the services available for members, serving as the Mainland information and trading platform to seek trading
opportunities for Hong Kong’s jewelry industry players. Our Shenzhen office will exert its greatest power to enhance the
status of the whole industry.
Regarding jewelry retailing, jewelry identification is a revolution in jewelry industry. With the support of the Hong Kong
Council for Testing and Certification, product information is engraved on the jewelry surface or product invoice
respectively to boost the buyers’ confidence, under the “Laser J-ID Scheme“ and “Label J-ID Scheme“. The development
of J-ID Scheme symbolizes a milestone in Hong Kong jewelry industry.
Looking forward, Hong Kong’s jewelry exhibitions keep expanding and ripening, for example, the Hong Kong International
Jewelry Manufacturers’ Show organized by HKJMA draws the attention from jewelry industry players worldwide. The
March Hong Kong International Jewellery Show and the September Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair have even become
the world’s largest and most eye-catching jewelry exhibitions, appealing to overseas and Mainland buyers. The
geographical advantage of Hong Kong provides a perfect trading platform for jewelry industry, in addition to the openness
of Hong Kong policies, Hong Kong gets the upper hand of the right place and right time, fostering its jewelry industry’s
potent development.
With the changing market, corporate development will become a greater concern in jewelry industry. Not only the
production techniques and management concepts are adjusted, corresponding strategies are also implemented on
branding development and market positioning. If members can apply the information and data offered by HKJMA flexibly,
the further progress of Hong Kong’s jewelry industry is yet to be seen.
In the future, our Association will strive for growing with the whole jewelry industry; and I will try my best to lead our
members to scale new heights in my 2-year tenure. Thank you again for all your supports.
